Pastoral letter, from Lance

What a busy day yesterday! VBS has begun! The children are learning about friendship with God through a SCUBA theme. All of the Woodland Committees have begun working on Budget 2025 proposals to give to the Finance Committee by the end of the month.

It was a joy having Ellen Di Giosia in the Woodland Pulpit yesterday. Being a weird prophet is a challenge, but we can do it—together and individually.

How can you and I be weird? How can we be weird together? Here are a few ideas.

Vote. Make sure you are registered to vote. Click here to determine if you are registered to vote, to see what is on the ballot, and more.

Get involved in a ministry:

  • Child of God Bed Ministry. Woodland provides beds for children to keep families together. See Tim Son or Debarah Wilson.

  • Larkspur Ministry. Woodland is one of several community partners at Larkspur. We encourage teachers and do a lot for the children. Woodland also provides mentors through KidsHope. See me or Patty Villarreal.

  • Women in Action. They meet monthly and use their hands to serve others. See Becky Miller or Linda Mason.

  • English as a Second Language (ESL). We need teachers! Classes begin the last week of August. We have morning and night classes. See Diana Bridges.

  • Ushers. On Sunday mornings, ushers greet visitors to Woodland and make them feel welcome. See Mary Son.

  • Habitat. Each fall, we help build a house for a family ready for a home of their own. Our build is on Saturdays beginning September 14. See Phil Sagebiel.

  • CAM Ministry. We make 500 lunch bags monthly for CAM to provide to their clients. See Becky Upchurch.

That’s just a few ideas, there are so many more. Are you involved in something outside of Woodland and you want others to know about it? Let me know. Maybe you are a CASA Advocate. Or you visit people who live in assisted living.

Is there something you want to do, but can’t find a place? Let me know and I’ll do my best to help.

Serving with you,

Lance Mayes
