Pastoral letter, from Garrett

Happy Veterans Day! In Jana’s prayer yesterday in worship, she offered these words:

God, we pause to give thanks for our veterans this week. They sacrificed their lives and limbs so that we may be safe and free. We pray that today will be one of joy, affirmation, and recognition, and we pray that the days that follow will mirror the gratitude expressed today. We also pray for those who care for our veterans: nurses, therapists, chaplains, and case workers. May an extra measure of joy be part of their services offered to our veterans.

This Sunday, we will have a quarterly business meeting in the sanctuary after worship. We will vote on the 2025 Budget and hear an update on the Sanctuary Renovation.

LifeTimer’s this Thursday features Al Staggs performing his one-person play based on Clarence Jordan. Jordan was a civil rights leader and theologian from the mid-20th century who founded Koinonia Farm in Sumter County, Georgia. The farm was an intentional Christian Community that sought to be a "demonstration plot for the Kingdom of God." For them, this meant following the example of the first Christian communities as described in the Acts of the Apostles. Jordan also translated the New Testament into a southern dialect— a version he called “The Cotton Patch Gospel.”

All are welcome to attend the performance at 11 a.m. You can RSVP for the lunch, too, if you want to stick around for a great meal.
Grace & peace,

Garrett Vickrey
