We have approached this ministry from the aspect of helping the caregivers. This is a tough job! Dementia teaches us the depth of our capacities to be patient, kind, and, most of all, unconditionally loving. One has to be spiritually strong and prepared for a long journey. The caregiver has to take care of her/himself before they can take care of someone else, especially with dementia. Our primary focus is to make their job easier by providing the right information. It is so helpful when someone has already been where you are and they share how they handled their situation.
We welcome anyone interested in attending, whether Woodland church members or not. We want to help anyone who wants help. We all need it. Some people aren’t ready; we hope you are. Once you have attended a meeting, you will wonder how you’ve done without the support and compassion of those experiencing the same journey.
We discuss where each caregiver/patient is on their journey each month. The changes, what they are experiencing, new meds, and whatever is happening. Sometimes there are small or no changes and other times there are difficult changes. It can be very trying when they go from one stage to the next. Caregivers need a break during these difficult times. A respite house is always a good thing to consider if you don’t have someone else in the family to step in and help. There are many services available depending on your needs.
You don’t have to suffer alone, we are here for you Please give us a chance to help you. Fill out the above form for more information.
