Music Ministry

Woodland Church enjoys a highly innovative and unique Music Ministry which spans all ages.
Woodland’s musical footprint extends far beyond Huebner Road and
deeply into the musical community of the Alamo City.

For Adults

The Sanctuary Choir is Woodland’s longstanding choral ministry for Adults. Serving as the standard service choir for Woodland’s 11am Worship, the Choir sings a wide range of anthem repertoire from hymn settings to classics to contemporary arrangements suitable for traditional worship. The Sanctuary Choir is upon occasion accompanied by professional chamber orchestras for Sunday morning worship. At least annually (during Advent and oftentimes in the spring), the Sanctuary Choir collaborates with professional orchestra players to perform works such as Handel’s MESSIAH, Vivaldi’s GLORIA, Taylor Davis’ MAGNIFICAT, Claude Bass’s THE HOLY LIGHT, John Rutter’s GLORIA, along with numerous anthem concerts. When in season throughout the school year, the Sanctuary Choir’s rehearsals are usually held on Wednesday evenings, 7pm to 8:15pm in the Sanctuary choir loft. Contact Randy Edwards if you’re interested in joining us!

For Children

Children’s Choirs meet seasonally throughout the school year and sing for worship during Advent as well as for Children’s and Student’s Sunday each May. In season, Children’s Choirs meet at 3pm on Sundays in the Children’s Center. Daniel Zamora provides overall leadership to Children’s Choirs, assisted by a talented group of volunteer adults. Children’s Choirs provide early music education and choral training, giving children the opportunity to learn more about worship and to begin leading in worship at Woodland. Contact Daniel if you’re interested!

For Students

Woodland is host to the San Antonio Youth Chorale, a ministry of YouthCUE and open to all students, grades 6-12. SAYC (we pronounce it “SAY see”) is a diverse and inclusive community of currently 45 students and growing which sings and collaborates on mission throughout the San Antonio Region. SAYC sings for Woodland worship upon occasion and regularly sings concerts around San Antonio, particularly in the San Antonio Missions and San Fernando Cathedral. Aside from SAYC’s glorious choral sounds, the students also benefit from leadership training, the development of their personal communication skills, advancing music and choral education, and becoming involved in community service. In season, SAYC rehearses on Sundays from 4pm to 6pm in Maresh Hall.  www.sayouthchorale.net

For Advanced Music Students
and Professionals

The Woodland Choral Scholars Program was launched in 2021 and includes students and young professionals who collaborate with the Sanctuary Choir and sometimes with SAYC for special programs and designated Sunday morning worship services. It is a joy to welcome the Choral Scholars into Woodland’s extended community.

For Vocal and Instrumental Soloists

Woodland Music Ministry collaborates with student and professional soloists as opportunity allows. Children, students, adults, and professional musicians are often part of Woodland’s artistic expressions in worship as we celebrate the gifts of these talented artists, ranging from middle school and high school instrumentalists to adult soloists to SA Philharmonic instrumentalists to world renowned operatic singers ... all part of the Woodland family and our extended community.
