Pastoral note, from Garrett
The ties that bind have to be tended. When we give “the ties” the attention they deserve, we create a stronger, more resilient community that is responsive to the needs and wants of its people.
Tending these ties is the goal of this Sunday afternoon's Festival of Faiths at Northwest Vista. The Festival showcases the rich diversity of our city’s faith traditions through music, art, dance, storytelling, panels, presentations, and absolute joy.
The Festival was started three years ago by Interfaith San Antonio Alliance (ISAA), a group I’ve been connected with since its founding in 2018. Last year, I missed a meeting, and now I’m the chair of the board. You know how that goes. ISAA has a similar goal—to bring together clergy throughout the city so congregations of all sorts can respond to the community's needs together. This group has advocated for affordable housing and helped respond to the needs of immigrants in San Antonio.
The Festival is free, but they do ask us to register here. It will be a rich experience. Last year, over 1,400 people from more than 40 faith traditions attended. I think you’ll come away from this loving your city more than you do— what better way to get ready for a new Spurs season?
Woodland Thanksgiving is a month away, and it’s time to get your tickets. We will be back in the sanctuary this year with Bill Miller carving the turkey. See below for info and links to register.
This week, Church Council meets Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m., and the Finance Committee meets after worship on Sunday.
Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
