Pastoral note, from Garrett

Our annual Church Retreat begins this Friday night at T Bar M Camp in New Braunfels. We have 86 signed up to go. It’s the largest group we’ve ever had. We’re going to learn how to be better peacemakers. Carrie Graham is our guest facilitator. The retreat will wrap up on Sunday morning with a closing worship service.

This Sunday morning, we will have only one service at Woodland. We will have Sunday School at 10 a.m. and an 11 a.m. worship service in Maresh Hall. See you there.

The Church Anniversary Picnic is scheduled for October 5 at 5 p.m. This year, Woodland celebrates its 36th anniversary. The deacons provide the chicken, and we ask that you bring a side or dessert. The Cowboys play the Jets at noon on October 5. So, we’ll either be celebrating with fried chicken or wallowing in chicken grease. Either way, it’s a win for the fellowship.

On October 12, we invite our entire church to take a step of faith together. We’re calling it ‘Try the Tithe Sunday.’ On that day, we’re asking each of us to give 10% of one week’s income. We do this not as a burden, but as a bold act of trust. It’s a way of saying, ‘God, I trust you with what matters most.’ We believe this step will open doors to joy, expand our generosity, and reveal what we can accomplish together.

Grace and peace,

Garrett Vickrey
