Pastoral note, from Garrett
For some, school is out, and for others, it’s the last week. Summer is here. A new pace of life opens up before us. Here’s what’s going on at Woodland…
Monday fellowships. June “Pilgrimage” Sunday School with Dr. John G. Lewis. July Sermons Series on the Renovated Sanctuary. Summer Calendar out this week.
Mondays are the thing. The “EVERY LIVING THING” Family Fellowship Nights begin next Monday (JUNE 1). We’re going to be talking about what every living thing needs to thrive— shelter, air, and water. Recognizing our needs helps us grow our compassion for those who don’t have what they need. These sessions will also help us grow our compassion for the earth God created.
If you want to be involved, contact Katie (katie@woodlandsa.org). There are plenty of ways to join this exciting ministry with families. There are positions available for volunteers of all ages.
June 7 is the first Sunday School session with Dr. John G. Lewis. John is an engaging speaker and teacher. He’s a lawyer and an Episcopalian priest with a Ph.D in New Testament from Cambridge. He’ll be teaching on Paul. He’s got a good take on Paul. I think you’ll like it.
Our staff is finalizing a one-page PDF of the summer calendar. We hope to send that out to you later this week.
Diana Bridges begins her sabbatical this week. She applied for sabbatical funding through CBF Texas and was awarded a grant. Diana will be on sabbatical until July 17. Please keep her in your prayers in the coming weeks—prayers for renewal, rest, and renewed vocation. May this be a time for her to return again to the sacred bush that burns without being consumed, to remember the voice she first heard there, and to listen anew for what is hers to do.
Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
Senior Pastor
