Did You Know — Sagar Bhukya & BBPT

A Missions Moment Brought to you by the
Missions & Ministries Committee

Woodland Missions Budget 2025 for BBPT/Sagar is $4000.

In 2005, on the recommendation of James and Robbie Francovich, former Woodland members and CBF Field Personnel, Woodland began its relationship with Sagar Bhukya by funding and supporting his education at Truett Seminary. Sagar returned to India after graduation in 2009 to continue his ministry with BBPT which ministers specifically to the Banjara people. There are millions of unreached Banjaras in India living an extremely poor existence, villages with no electricity or running water, who truly are the least of these.

Christian outreach to Banjaras started in 1935; by 1977 there were only 1,526 Banjara believers. Currently, BBPT ministry is serving in four states of India:

  • 34 regional coordinators,

  • 139 male church planters,

  • 53 women church planters

  • Three schools serving 859 of the most neglected and forgotten Banjara children through educational projects (Among the Banjara, the literacy rate is 14% for males and 3% for females)

  • Bible School in Hydrabad graduates 60 students annually who go to new areas to introduce the gospel and plant churches. Planters

  • 10,000+ active volunteers leading the fellowship groups.

Through the work of BBPT there are now about 350,000 believers among the Banjara!

To reach the unreached Banjaras and other tribal communities with the Gospel and for their holistic transformation, BBPT as a ministry has a vision to empower the underprivileged Banjaras in their social, economic, and spiritual life by building their capacity through the love of Jesus Christ.

To accomplish the task, BBPT continues to focus their work in these five major areas:

  1. Evangelism and Church Planting,

  2. Leaders Training,

  3. Orphan/ Children Educational Ministry,

  4. Redemptive Social Initiative,

  5. Medical Ministry.
