Pastoral Note, from Garrett

This Sunday is Jana Morga’s last Sunday with us. We will recognize her and send her off with a blessing at the end of each service. A reception will be held in the atrium following the 11 a.m. service on Sunday.

I’m deeply grateful for her service to the church over the past five years, and I look forward to seeing how her career progresses from here. She begins her pastoral residency at Second Baptist Liberty in Liberty, MO, in a few weeks. If you missed her sermon from a few weeks ago (July 13), you may want to go back and watch it or read it. The manuscript was in the “This Week at Woodland” email from July 14.

We are going to have a “hybrid” Church Business Meeting next Monday (July 28) at noon. You can join us at church or on ZOOM. We will look at updates to the Personnel Policy, receive a financial report from our church treasurer, and vote on the newly updated Child Safety Policy that the youth and children’s committees have been working on. We will send the ZOOM link out with the agenda later in the week.

This Thursday (July 24), there will be a service in recognition of Jim Gladson’s military career at Patriot Heights Retirement Community (where he and Marilyn lived) at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

The church office is quieter than usual this week. Lisa Shinkins and Jana Morga are accompanying our preteens to Passport Kids’ Camp in Glen Rose. Lance is on vacation this week. It’s camp and missions season for sure. Lance and Jana took a group of youth on a mission trip to the border (mostly Harlingen and Brownsville). And the kids left yesterday for Children’s Camp.

The renovation committee met with the builder and architects for an update on the project. We do this every other Monday. Some outlets in the CMOP classroom were not working on Sunday. Evidently, they had been turned off by the electrical inspector while a beam was being inserted into a wall elsewhere. They are back on now.

Grace and peace,

Garrett Vickrey
