Did You Know?
Pheni Chuma has been a guest at Woodland Church for a few months. Pheni and his family have been in San Antonio for three years for him to work on a PhD at Texas State.
He started Love in Action Malawi, a ministry in his village in Malawi, to educate and feed children, mostly orphans. He wanted to expand his ministry to educate illiterate adults and work on the problems on a systemic level. Funded by a grant through USAID, Pheni moved his family to San Antonio three years ago to pursue a PhD at Texas State. They provided everything for him and his family to move to San Antonio and for him to go to school. When the funding got cut to USAID, he panicked. Woodland Church has helped them with rent and food. His visa only allows him to work 20 hours a week (he makes $9/hour), and his wife’s visa does not allow her to work. They have four children.
Pheni saw the only sustainable option as moving back home. He received permission to complete his education online, the Malawi Embassy provided for their airfare, and Woodland provided money for them to get resettled (they sold everything when they moved to San Antonio).
Please continue to pray for Pheni and his family and for Love in Action Malawi.
