Pastoral note, from Garrett
Our ministries council is meeting tonight. The Ministries Council is comprised of the chairs of all the committees and ministry team leaders. This group usually meets a couple of times a year with the Church Council. This helps us all get on the same page and ensure we are not only working to support each other in various ministries but also setting goals and initiatives that will support the mission of Woodland.
This Sunday is the 2nd annual Festival of Faiths at the University of the Incarnate Word. This unique gathering brings together San Antonio’s diverse communities to learn about other faiths and cultures, fostering understanding, equity, and connection. The festival is coordinated by the Interfaith San Antonio Alliance.
Life After Loss begins this Thursday. This caring ministry, led by Lee Weems in partnership with the Ecumenical Center, offers support and hope for those who are grieving. Check out the graphic below.
On Sunday, September 28, we will have only one worship service in the morning. That weekend is the Church Retreat, so there will be a worship service for the retreat participants at T Bar M in New Braunfels. We will have Worship in Maresh Hall at 11 a.m. following Sunday School.
I preached at Royal Lane Baptist in Dallas this past Sunday. Their pastor, Victoria, and I swap pulpits each year. She will be preaching here on our anniversary Sunday, October 5. Interestingly, they are also renovating their sanctuary at the moment. So they, too, are holding worship services at 9 and 11 in their fellowship hall.
Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
