Pastoral note, from Garrett

In her prayer on Easter morning, Diana Bridges thanked God for the beautiful day. My gut reaction was, “But it’s cold and rainy.” Then she said, “We thank you for this rain.” Of course. The rain is exactly what we needed. We’ve had so little this year. So, yes, it is beautiful. Thanks, Diana. Easter meets us where we are.

We had three services, each about 48 minutes long on Sunday morning. We crammed a lot into a small time frame. The most attended service was 10 a.m. where there were about 20 more people than the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services (which had about the same amount). All in all, we had about 375 altogether (including the choir 3x). We collected about 30 new connection cards from new friends.

Thanks to all the ushers and our lead usher, Mary Son. Thank you to our folks running— Tony DiGiosia, David Goree, and Chris Collins. Thanks to Les Barnes for picking up the donuts and preparing the spread. Thanks to Kathy Barnes for her help with communion. And thanks to the communion leaders— Conrad Navarro, Ari Juarez, Lee Prophitt, and Jessica Prophitt.

Also, thanks to Chris Baer, Jason Hanchey, and Grayson Hanchey for helping remove a giant limb that fell on Saturday afternoon. The limb was covering almost the entire walkway at the entrance to the courtyard by the parking lot.

April 19 is Woodland Fiesta. We will have food and fun at five on Sunday evening to celebrate one of our city's great eccentricities. I can’t promise Woodland pins, but it will be fun—5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On April 25, we are doing our first Community Nature Walk at Walker Ranch Park at 10 a.m. The park has a parking lot at 12603 West Ave, San Antonio, TX  78216. This is a walk, not a run. You are invited to slow down and pay attention as you walk. We will walk to and across the Land Bridge and back. It is about 1.5 miles.

On April 26, we will have a Church Business Meeting after the 11 a.m. service. The meeting will take place in the Traveler’s Classroom.

Grace and peace,

Garrett Vickrey
