Pastoral note, from Garrett
There is still a lot of dust in the air in the sanctuary building. And honestly, we have a lot of questions about when the renovation will be completed. We have had more delays with SAWS, which will affect our ability to obtain our Certificate of Occupancy in time to move back by May 31.
This pushes back our timeline and affects other parts of the project. Pugh Constructors projects that they will begin on punchlist items on May 4. But there is some concern that they might not be ready by then. The stained glass still needs to be installed (possibly at the end of April, maybe the first week of May). The new electronic organ needs to be installed and “tuned.” We will have to adjust and prepare our A/V and A/C. Plus, we will have to move chairs and prepare the space. All these things have to be coordinated appropriately and, in some cases, in a certain order.
It’s possible this could all happen in time for us to be back in the sanctuary on May 31. We should know more in a few weeks. I’m hopeful that we will move back in on June 7, but right now things are still up in the air.
I can promise you that this Sunday (April 19) is Woodland Fiesta, and it’s going to be a blast. It starts at 5 p.m. Hang out till 7 p.m. Enjoy great food and friends. As you know, we’re trying to meet 426 new friends this year— this is a good opportunity to bring a friend to church. Who do you know in your circles who needs a community of faith?
On April 25, we are doing our first Community Nature Walk at Walker Ranch Park at 10 a.m. The park has a parking lot at 12603 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78216. This is a walk, not a run. You are invited to slow down and pay attention as you walk. We will walk to and across the Land Bridge and back. It is about 1.5 miles.
On April 26, we will have a Church Business Meeting after the 11 a.m. service. The meeting will take place in the Traveler’s Classroom.
Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
Senior Pastor
