Pastoral Note, from Garrett

After our renovation meeting today, we decided to move the soft opening of the sanctuary back to June 7. This will affect the concert. We are still working on the details concerning when we can secure musicians in order to set that date. We hope to know more in the coming days. June 7 re-entry puts us right back at the original re-entry date from the start of the project. We thought we might be early, but here we are.

May 17 is “All Belong Sunday.” This is what we’re calling Children’s Sunday this year. Children will be our worship leaders throughout both services. After the 11 a.m. service, there will be a pool party for the families of children and youth at the Oak Meadow pool.

Lots of volunteer opportunities in the Family Ministry area in the coming months. Look for ways to get involved with the exciting things going on. For more info, talk to Katie. This summer we are going to be doing some family fellowship nights similar to last year. Save those dates (June 1, 8, & 15).

Sunday (April 26) we had a business meeting after the 11 am service. We talked about the progress (and setbacks) with the renovation. Joel Kirn also provided an important update about an award Woodland won last week.

Woodland was named Church of the Year by Care Portal at their national conference in Kansas City last Tuesday. Woodland's Child of God Bed Ministry partners with Care Portal to provide beds for children in need in Bexar County. Joel Kirn was there to accept the award on our behalf. We are hearing from our local Care Portal connections that this award usually goes to megachurches in large metropolitan areas. So this was quite a pleasant surprise. We are grateful to partner with Care Portal and thank them for this honor.

Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
