Pastoral letter, from Garrett
This Sunday is All Saints Day. This is a day of remembrance of those in our congregation who have died this past year. Yes, it’s a time when we remember what we have lost. But it’s also a time to remember the incredible legacy of faith we have been given.
Frederick Buechner writes, “The Holy Spirit has been called ‘the Lord, the giver of life,’ and drawing their power from that source, saints are essentially life-givers. To be with them is to become more alive.” This Sunday is also a time to remember those who have walked with us or helped us along our journey of faith.
The first draft of the 2025 budget is out now. It was emailed to our email list on Sunday, and there were paper copies in the information center last Sunday. Our annual budget hearing will be this Sunday after worship in the sanctuary. If you have any questions about the budget you want addressed at the hearing, please email Lisa Shinkins. There’s a link to see the 2025 budget below.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT— “The dead shall rise” is no longer only recited in Christian doctrine. Transhumanist philosophers like Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, envision a future where the dead would rise, the earth would be transformed, and humans would become immortal. Does that sound like the biblical prophets, or what? This will be part of our discussion Wednesday night during our Artificial Intelligence series at Serendipity—at 5:30 p.m. in Maresh Hall.
Grace & peace,
Garrett Vickrey
