Pastoral note, from Garrett
Our Woodland Thanksgiving dinner will be on November 16 at TriPoint (see below). This year's program will be a little different. This may sound strange coming from a pastor, but it’s less of a worship service and more of a comedy show. Lee Prophitt (Woodland member and former pastor who is currently a stand-up comedian) will be hosting the program, and he’s bringing a couple of local comedians with him.
Reserve your spot today. Do you need this to be a free meal? Let Lisa know; we got you.
The Thanksgiving dinner and celebration will take place at TriPoint (3233 N St. Mary’s St, San Antonio, TX 78212). TriPoint is a multi-purpose facility owned by Trinity Baptist. It’s a large space accustomed to groups like ours.
Our youth and children’s ministries are organizing a food drive this November. Bring food items for donation and place them in the blue bins around the church. We hope this can be a way of bridging the gap for those who have lost SNAP benefits this month.
We had a wonderful All Saints commemoration on Sunday. Lee and Karen Weems organized a breakfast for our All Saints family and helped coordinate the commemoration in worship.
I sat in the back (the only seat I could find) next to a child who has been visiting with her dad the past few weeks. She whispered, “Are these people who died?” He said, “Yes. They’re remembering them and honoring them.” Indeed. We practice the kind of memory our faith in God articulates— that no one is ever forgotten. We are raised up by the strong arm of the Lord, and remembered in communities like Woodland, where the love of God is embodied.
Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
