Pastoral note, from Garrett
Let’s talk about Easter Sunday. But, first the sanctuary…
The Sanctuary renovation is going according to plan. At this point, the builder believes they will finish in early April (About a month earlier than their original projection). Once they complete their major work, they start the punchlist. April and May will be about completing the punchlist and tuning the new organ. The stained glass windows will be installed in May.
We plan to re-enter the sanctuary for worship on May 31. But that means we will be worshipping in Maresh Hall for Easter Sunday. So we must prepare.
We will have 3 services on Easter Sunday (April 5) at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. There will be no Sunday School. This will be a different kind of Easter, but it could be a really wonderful morning. We will have three lively and joyful services, concluding with communion around the flower cross in the courtyard after each service.
We will have a Maundy Thursday service on April 2 to commemorate the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Cross at 7 p.m. in Maresh Hall. This is a wonderful contemplative service that prepares us to enter the mystery of the cross.
Coming up Soon— Church Workday on March 21. We’ll spend the morning on the church grounds planting, pruning, clearing, and cleaning. More info below.
On April 25, we will have our first Community Nature Walk at Hardberger Park. At 10 a.m. that Saturday morning, we will meet at the Urban Ecology Center (8400 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78231). This will be a great “426 opportunity.” Bring a friend.
April 19 is Woodland Fiesta. We will have food and fun at five on Sunday evening to celebrate one of our city's great eccentricities. I can’t promise Woodland pins, but it will be fun—5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
