Did You Know

A Missions Moment Brought to you by the
Missions & Ministries Committee

Woodland’s Child of God Bed Ministry receives $6000 from the Woodland Church 2025 budget and receives lots of grants from Walmart and Sam’s Club, Texas Cavaliers, The Greehey Family Foundation, Dixie Starnes Wenger Foundation, McCombs Foundation, and HEB. The grants, together with Woodland’s investment, have been over $116,000 since December 2021.

All of this is to provide beds for at-risk children.

The Child of God Bed Ministry was created to provide beds for children served by Child Protective Services. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) does everything possible to keep families together — we work with Child and Protective Services (CPS). One way DFPS does this is to ensure every child in the home has their own bed to sleep in. Some families have children sleeping on pallets on the floor, some on couches, and some sleep 2, 3, or more in the same bed. Woodland provides these beds and bedding at no cost to families.

South Texas Alliance for Orphans runs the Alliance Prevention Network (APN), which provides information about family needs. (South Texas Alliance for Orphans is an organization that helps churches serve foster children and their families.) Woodland is also part of CarePortal, where we find most of the bed needs.

The team, led by Tim Son and Debarah Wilson, consists of several Woodland members who make teddy bears, provide bedding, make deliveries, and set up the beds. We also have several people who are pastors and members of other congregations who help with delivery and setup.

IMPACT

  • 73 beds were delivered in 2022.

  • 107 beds were delivered in 2023.

  • 135 beds were delivered in 2024.

  • So far, 34 beds have been delivered in 2025 through 4/30/25.

  • That is 349 children provided with a bed of their own.

See Tim Son or Debarah Wilson to see how you can be involved in Woodland’s Child of God Bed Ministry. Also, check out this webpage: woodlandsa.org/bed-ministry.
