Pastoral note, from Garrett

The renovation votes passed on Sunday. 96% of the votes cast affirmed moving forward with the proposals. This is an exciting time. Our last Sunday in the sanctuary will be May 25. Afterward, we will transition to 2 services in Maresh Hall at 9 and 11 a.m. We’ll have Sunday School between the worship services.

Our education committee hosted its annual Education Summit on Sunday afternoon. Mary Locke Crofts was our guest speaker. She talked about the gift of storytelling. Crofts talked about not rushing to pronounce a moral lesson when teaching biblical stories. But instead, let the story work its magical mystery into the students.

I heard this a lot last week on my quick trip to the Post-Evangelical Collective conference in Nashville. Author and former children’s minister Meredith Miller said the question we should ask our kids about church is not, "Did you have fun?" but, "Did you hear a story?"

On May 18, our children’s choir will lead us in worship. We will also present Bibles to the first graders and recognize graduates. After worship, the children and their families are invited to a pool party at the Oak Meadow Pool.

Grace and peace,
Garrett Vickrey
