Congregation News - Edie Dutton
Brad and I joined Woodland thirty-five years ago on Palm Sunday 1990. We were newlyweds and searching for a church home after moving to San Antonio for Brad to attend dental school.
We had always been an active part of large churches with overflowing children’s programs, dynamic youth programs and active college departments. However, as young marrieds, the big churches in San Antonio just didn’t seem to fit. We are so glad that God led us to the tiny mission church of Woodland where education, music, missions and every member a minister are emphasized. We have been privileged to witness the growth of the church…welcoming new buildings, staff, members and ministries over the years.
This last year, serving as the Renovation Team chair, I have been once again reminded how very fortunate we are in all of resources: generous, intentional donors, gifted and hard-working staff members, and invested, committed congregation members. During this project, the staff has been so kind to, in addition to their normal activities, answer my many questions, meet with professionals, and encourage our team. Thank you staff! To our wonderful team, Ashley Allen, Tony DiGiosia, Norm Dugas, Ray Furr, PJ Heath, and Mary Russell, you are amazing! Thank you for sharing your areas of expertise and for the many hours of sitting in meetings. Congregation, thank you for your questions, your suggestions and your many words of encouragement throughout this process.
Now that we have the plans in hand and the church has voted to move forward with the project, we turn our attention to preparing for and managing the build. We trust that God will guide us and this project to provide a warm welcome and safe worship space for all those who are led to this place.
