Psalm 62:1-12
Sometimes hope is all we have to cling to as our earthly tomorrows remain largely unknown. Where that hope is placed, however, makes all the difference. David voiced confidence that we can echo as he said in Psalm 62: “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.” He often found himself surrounded by enemies and we often find ourselves immersed in worry and cares. But with David we can say: “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation.”
Frequently, in looking back over days and weeks that seemed to have turned so quickly into years, God’s hand in weaving our life course in things large and small becomes so evident. All around in the commercial world a bustle of activity greets us in every venue and escaping it seems impossible. This is when I become even more thankful for a church community that has embraced a spirit of quiet reverence in the preparation and celebration of the festival of Christmas. May this beacon of hope shine as a special gift to the lives we touch.
