Psalm 19
Perfect, trustworthy, right, radiant, pure, sure, righteous, precious and sweet.
What do all these words have in common?
Yes, they all are adjectives. We normally use them when making reference to the qualities of a person or an object. In this particular case, King David, the writer of many of the psalms, employed them to describe the written word of God.
The words of God are all wonderful by themselves, but when we read, listen to, learn, apply and practice them, we receive something else in return. In Psalm 19:11 we clearly see that “… there is great reward.” Let’s examine what kind of prize is expected out of these nine attributes mentioned above.
“The law of the Lord is PERFECT, reviving the soul. The statues of the Lord are TRUSTWORTHY, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are RIGHT, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are RADIANT, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is PURE, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are SURE and altogether RIGHTEOUS. They are more PRECIOUS than gold, than much pure gold; they are SWEETER than honey, than honey from the comb.” Psalms 19: 8-10
As we go through this Lent season, let’s stay focused in keeping God’s words in our daily lives. It will not go unrewarded.
